Lenny Kravitz is an American rock musician. His father was producer Sy Kravitz and his mother was actress Roxie Roker. His father was Jewish (from a family from Eastern Europe, either Russia or Ukraine). His mother was half Afro-Bahamian and half African-American.

Lenny has been a practicing Christian since he was a teenager, having embraced Christianity as a personal choice when he was thirteen.

Lenny’s paternal grandparents were Joseph Kravitz and Jean. Joseph was a Russian Jewish immigrant, while Jean was born in New York, to Russian Jewish parents.

Lenny’s maternal grandparents were Albert Roker (the son of Ezekiel Roker) and Bessie Mitchell (the daughter of Will Mitchell and Julia Tillman). Albert was a Black immigrant from The Bahamas and Bessie was an African-American from Georgia.

Lenny has stated that one of his maternal great-grandmothers was a Cherokee Native American. It is not clear if this Cherokee ancestry has been documented.
